What a treat that Criterion set is! The quality is simply superb in every respect, matching the beauty of the film, and together they leave deep and lasting impression.

To say I enjoyed the event would be a gross understatement. It was also like reliving some of our younger years.

Interesting observation... I always used to think it was Fernando Rey's film - but no, last night it was Stéphane Audran who stole the show - all of it, with her grace, charm and dignity.

To Bunuel the good manners of the upper class were just a superficial cover... but today, with all the rudeness around us we long for the refined manners. The polished manners of the hypocrites in the film are akin to the proverbial American smile - it is fashionable in many circles, many countries to laugh at it... but I will take that obigatory and often mechanical smile over the rude and unfriendly faces you meet in many other countries, any day.
