"Blair Witch Project."
The director should have acknowledged the debt in the credits.
Both films were minimalist and terrifying, with very "authentic" actors.

Follow Ups:
It is in fact a terrible situation. But it is so minimal as a movie. The characters were completely undefined, a couple of anonymous workaholics. The digital cinematography was grimy and dark, maybe by intention, but it would've worked better for me with better visuals.I can't help comparing this to Touching the Void. That had me squirming in discomfort. This was a totally true story, we got to know something about the people as people, and their reactions to the extreme situation were described from inside. Far more interesting and compelling. And the acid test, I may get Touching the Void on DVD, while I have not the slightest desire to see Open Water again.
Maybe the comparison with Blair Witch Project works for me. I didn't see much in that either.

What a simple, powerful concept for a movie. At the end the audience in my theater sat in stunned silence as the credits rolled. The film has a very deep (pun not intended) existential theme.
