    It's a coincidence that I watched "The Great Escape" last night. I had tried to watch it on laserdisc recently but the transfer was too dark so I got it on DVD (used, $4.44) and it came yesterday. Splendid story and fine acting all the way around.

    that the DVD issue is rather mediocre?

    With all the special editions coming out, I'm holding out for a remastered anamorphic version . . . it is about the last item on my list that apparently isn't being worked on (other items on list: Wild Bunch--special edition in the works; Blade Runner, etc.)
