I found this film to be far more interesting than Star Wars. Granted, the new box set is spectacular in DVD quality transfer. It appears THX-1138 got the same attention to detail. I have to give George Lucas credit, he hasn't done anything of recent of credibility, but his re-releases to DVD take his classics and bring them up to snuff to compete with modern day movies. You could compare THX-1138 to Logan's Run, however, THX-1138 has a timeless quality seen in other movies like Gattaca (filmed in the same location in some scenes) or even Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (in appearance).

Follow Ups:
Star Wars....(1977 ONLY), was a groundbreaking & refreshing departure from films of that era. George Lucas has come up with some good ideas in the world of entertainment.....but is a mediocre filmmaker IMHO.One idea went really wrong.Three words: Howard The Duck.
I just don't get it with THX-1138. I tried watching it twice, and consider it just plain terrible.
I suspect it is just "hip" to be a THX-1138 fan, even though it sucks so badly. After all.....real-live-intelligent humans go to the grocery store to purchase....WATER....and shiiiit brother! Water seems to sell!Russ
There are references to "THX-1138" in both "American Graffiti" (the Chevy's license plate) and in Star Wars (the number of a cell block). Is the original 6 minute student version also on the DVD?
...Sky Captain & TWOT - a license plate.

Yes, I saw that before I walked out after an hour.

I was too tired to walk out. I was having fun counting the references. Plus, Jude Law is favorite eye candy.
I haven't watched the bonus disc yet...Not sure about the "Lucus in Love" reference...but wasn't he married to a singer at one point?

George Lucas was never married to a singer, but for a couple of years after his first divorce, he was seen with Linda Ronstadt.

This is a very clkever and funny nine minute spoof of how Lucas came to write the "Star Wars" series. It started out on the Internet and is now on DVD along with other spoofs by the same film makers. Just Google "George lucas in Love" and you'll be able to find where to puy it.
