My wife rented this last night and talked me into watching it with her. That movie stinks worse than a swimming pool full of skunk juice! Sean Connery was his usual steady self but that's about the only positive thing I can think to say about it.
What a waste! Like the Lara Croft films, think what a difference a better script and director could have made.
And my wife thinks it's good enough she's gonna buy the DVD! I'll put that on the shelf next to her other favorite, "Top Gun."
Somebody save me!
Follow Ups:
The last time I mentioned how bad this movie was, either here or on one of the other forums I visit, someone chimed in to say that the movie was never actually finished. This person said they were involved with the studio that put out this piece of garbage. Apparently the project ran out of money and they slapped what they had into the shape of a movie, without doing a proper edit and without finishing the rough CGI.Whether that's true or not, it sure would explain a lot.
==========
I like the way that they tied in all those Victorian characters and the plot wasn't too far fetched for a fantasy film. I think that was two summers ago and I saw most of the action flicks and rated this one an entertaining 3 out of 5. The CGI was OK in spots and worse in others, IIRC. I don't know if I would buy the DVD, but I would gladly watch the film again. If you didn't like Tomb Raider I, then I could see where you'd think TLOEG sucked.
Stick with subtited foreign films next time.
Good for you.I'm not a wet-behind-the-ears movie novice and I'm certainly not a film snob. I am an intelligent movie consumer and I enjoy good action films more than almost any other movie genre.
"League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" and "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider" are not good action films. Yeah, there is plenty action but they are bad, bad, bad in the script department. Both films suffered from plot holes you could fly a spaceship through and miserable character development. Too much CGI with not enough script.
They are almost as bad as "Attack of the Clones."
So, I'll take my foreign films with subtitles and you can take your "Dumb and Dumberer." We'll both be happy.
By the way....have you ever seen a foreign film with subtitles? Ever seen "Hiroshima, Mon Amore" or "Rashamon" or "The Seventh Seal?" There is more to foreign films than Godzilla and Kung Fu.

I just don't hold most 'action films' to the standard of Spencer or Milton, is all.
SPENCER Tracy and MILTON Berle.......

I won't bother with League. I watched the first 20 minutes of Lara Croft at home, and with a wide screen TV, the costant close-ups of her lips became annoying fast. Nice lips, but not good enough to make the movie. I turned it off, and eventually gave away the disc.
I have no problem with imports, and about 25-30% of my collection is imported. There just isn't alot of stuff coming out of Hollywood these days that's worth seeing.
To each his own.

I thought League was pretty horrible myself. My wife left the room on this one I think. Sean, as always, was fine.
I also never really understood how Top Gun was quite as popular as it was/is. It's OK, not bad... but not great. I could maybe see why it'd be popular with the women, but from a guys point of view I found it a bit over-rated.
