Well tonight I took a second look at it. I think it is a minor but a small marvel. The photography is excellent, Tokyo breath. As for the actors a very good job they have done.
I wait for Sophia next film.

  Well not " Il surpasso "! But if Dino the " The Scent of a Woman " !!! Of course " Pygmalion " ( or / and " My fair Lady ".

I didn't like this movie. It was a slice of life movie. Unfortunately it was a slice that IMO simply isn't worthy of documentation. I have a hard tiem getting excited about rich bored people.

    I never said they weren't people. I'm simply saying their coping with their day to day boredom is not interesting. At least not to me. I've lived that movie several times. It isn't worthy of documentation. Just my opinion.

      But anyhow, you missed the point. It was about how a somewhat post-middle-aged man dealt with his...aging. The superficiality of modern existence, the demands of business, the downside of the "jet age" with its substitution of electronic stimulus for physical contact...
      It was Bill's struggle with potential boredom, depression, and feelings of worthlessness that formed the core of the movie. It was a scathing satire, hidden somewhat behind the jovial, long-suffering persona of Mr. Murray.
      I guess you didn't care much for "Last Tango...," either?

        No.

        That was a small aspect of the film. It was more about that wierd feeling of isolation one gets when trust into another culture while jet lagged. It is a quasi out of body experience. There you are in that hotel, bored. Then, there you are, wondering the streets of some foriegn country at three in the morning, bored and wierded out. When you run into some one who gives you a sense of familiarity to cling to them like a life preserver. I easily "got" the movie having pretty much lived it several times. I still say it is not very interesting.

        Yeah, I got that. I rich middle aged man's struggle with the wierd bordom one often suffers in thier hotel room after just getting in town isn't a struggle that I find terribly compelling.

        A scathing satire? I don't agree.

        You would do better just defending the movie being discussed rather than try to discredit my opinions of it by misrepresenting my opinons of other movies.

        "Gets" to me? Is that the object when one has a different opinion than you? Are different perspectives so unsettling?

He managed to surpress most of his Murrayisms and came across as a serious actor, bravo! Sophia can definitely write her own checks now.

I really enjoyed this film. I think that it is a film which you must not work too hard to enjoy, just watch and let it wash over you (whatever that means). If you like your films to be in your face, then this is not the one for you.
