rico,I have always loved the very atmospheric quality of this one. I've seen the restored version with the series of stills. While I enjoyed knowing what had been missing, in a an academic way, I would enjoy being able to normally be able to skip over that technique for continuity. I imagine the DVD can do that
For some reason, I associate "Lost Horizon" as a kind of early Americanized Kurosawa- perhaps the timbre, environment, and excellent photography.
Contrast this to the later depiction of discovering a lost civilisation- Gene Kelly's "Brigadoon".

This film is a failure. But one of the very brillant one. I love it.
WHY is it a "failure"?
I could tell you because because WE failed, but that would be only a " bon mot " but not untrue...
This film did because it is too " American " it use too many clichés, too stative, stoogey, cut too lamely, more I think Jaffe make up do NOT work.
In one word this film did not pass the test of time. It is TOO unmodern. Look at Capra other films....Pas une ride.
