This black and white Woody Allen film was made at the time he was shifting from pure comedy to the blend of drama and comedy which has characterized his work since. The story is exactly about that shift and the Woodster plays a film director at a weekend rerospective festival of his work. The film is qite cynical regarding the public's resistance to the change. Charlotte Rampling stars as a love interest. There are many Fellini-esque moments and touches of Bergman as well. Plus some funny lines. I found this to be entertaining.

Follow Ups:
Rico,Of all the Woody Allen films, this one irritates me the most. Not only was it not funny, but horribly boring.
I'll take Bananas, Sleeper, Annie Hall and Purple Rose over this piece of crap anyday.

feel-good ending of Manchirian Candidate reminded me of Jazz Heaven in SM.

Today, with all the hard competition in the music business, it's almost impossible to come up with anything totally original. So we haven't. However, this disc was made with the accent on heavy music.

Hmm, I only remember Jessica Harper in that one, I will have to watch that again
I just watched Radio Days; I think Woody is pretty good at this sort of nostalgic film. The Purple Rose of Cairo, Broadway Danny Rose + Bullets over Broadway I'd give a thumbs up to. More recently; Sweet and Lowdown. Woody is a fan of early jazz and a clarinet player himself, so the soundtracks tend to set the mood quite well
Thumbs down to Hannah and her Sisters, Shadows and Fog and Interiors
which seem all a bit strained and humorless
