Co-star of the cult hit Bubba Ho-tep passed away from apparently natural causes today while in Miami during the filming of a movie ironically titled "Retirement". Ossie's acting career stratched back to the 1930's with appearnces on Broadway in the 40's, in the play "Jeb" about a returning WWII veteran, he himself just having returned from serving as a surgical technician in Liberia. His film debut was "No Way Out" in 1950.
Follow Ups:
Schmeling (b.1905) fought Joe Louis in 2 famous bouts. He also paid the costs for the near destitute Louis' funeral. A good guy who battled the stigma of being made a celebrity of the Nazis. It's a stink that doesn't fade away. Wallace (b. 1927) was most notable to some as an actor who played Joe Louis in the eponymous film (1953), and also a real life heavyweight fighter (He was famous for defeating Rocky Marciano in the Golden Gloves tournament). Another Good Guy.

...you have a good feeling about. The way he spoke, the way he carried himself, etc. You could just tell he was a person of substance and integrity. And what a great voice!

Starred in a 1960's CBC series called Wojeck about the exploits of a Toronto coroner. This introduced him to Hollywood and I guess would be best known as Dean Wormer in Animal House. Gravelly-voiced actor who, like Leslie Nielsen and William Shatner, also worked well in comedies. He played Mr. Big in I'm Gonna Git You Sucka.
