His bombastic (when is he not?) supply sargeant carried it along with the war-weary Telly Savalas who really tied it together.Favorite lines:
What kind of a deal? Rickles: "A deal DEAL."
Of the German officer guarding the gold: "Maybe he's a Republican?"

The biggest complaint I've read about is Donald Sutherlands 1960-ish "hippy-talk"....in a 1940's period. I say: Nonsense! "Oddball", could've been the worlds FIRST hippy! Only, it did'nt really catch on until the late 50's & early 60's. Thats one way to justify his manner & speech, huh? (Why do ya think they call him "Oddball?)KH's one of my all time favorites. Hell with the critics....it is a fun movie, a great "popcorn-muncher" Love it!
Carrol O'conners over-the-top general is a joy as well.
Timbo,CLINT EASTWOOD...Don Rickles, Telly, among others...what's not to like?
I agree, flawed, but the vhs is in my library, and gets a viewing about every year.
I just finished the autobio by director Don Siegel, who didn't direct KH, but did do Clint's follow up film...apparantly Eastwood was waaaay less than happy with the ending of KELLY'S HEROES.
I believe this one was shot in Yougoslavia (sp?)...and wasn't the easiest film to make.
You have good taste!
