  They KNEW they'd get backlash if the put F 9/11 up for some awards, so the only way they could stick it to us conservatives is to have a raunchy comedian do anti-Bush standup for the opening of the show. Then we could watch our favorite(or ex-favorite as of last night) actors clapping and yukkin' it up at the political tripe being splashed about. I thought the theme of this event was 'movies'? I miss Billy Crystal. Didn't quite understand presenting awards in the aisles, maybe they were busy setting up the stage for the next 'best song' act. And we knew there was no way 'Passion' was going to win anything. Can't risk having the winner come up on stage and give a gracious speech, possibly directed at Mel Gibson, on how nice it was to work on "such a long awaited, wonderful, and inspirational project that meant so much to the millions of it's viewers around the world".

  "Highlights" only relative to the rest of the show. Glad million $$ baby won. Jamie Foxx's speech nice. Has there ever been a sorrier lot of nominated songs? And Beyonce singing 3 songs? All in all, shoulda rented something to kill the time? Nahh, the suspense over Best Pic, Best Director made it worth it, barely, 'specially since Million $$ baby took em both.

  not much but some in the hope that Rock will take the piss out not only out of the awards themselves but those most deserving of his barbs.

  a few years ago he hosted the MTVawards and made a joke about J-ho needing two limos to get to the show. that crack alone made tuning in worthwhile

      What a fine pair of headlights she has!!!! Although one of Sidney Lumet's kin in his family box had a pair that put Salma's to shame. But she didn't get on stage so she doesn't count.

  Sometimes its like watching a train wreck. But most of the times, Mrs., Warrior and I enjoy it just as an entertainment spectacle (both the spectacularly bad and good), and of course, derive entertainment from the suspense of who's going to win Oscars I give a shite about. Level of satisfaction directly proportional to the interest I've got in nominated films/actors/actresses.

    I should probably apologize for my apathy, especially considering I love films so much.

    I just can't stomach the so-called "controversy" over who's hosting from year-to-year, something which continually seems to overshadow anything actually up for awards. I'm not sure if that reflects on how calculated an exercise the host selection is or how awful the movies are.
