Follow Ups:
Perhaps I was a little tired. Doing sub titles when I'm tired is tough. I enjoyed the first half much more than the second. The embryonic stages of a new love? Nowhere to be found in the second half. Of course the second half was depicting the monotonous, cold, enui of the business world ala 1961. Excellent photography, expressive, fine acting and some killer shots. The kids running through Milan. Bellissimo. I preferred (the romanitic in me) love story aspect. Delicate camera work and lovely nuance: over after the first half of the movie, as far as the two kids went. Office New Years party, was depressing, slow, and a downer. Great camera work, but the end left me feeling like shit...good night....warren :-)

I prefer it even to Olmi's better known Tree of Wooden Clogs . Thank heavens Criterion rescued this gem from obscurity, as it's the equal of many more prominent Italian films from the same era.
