man I guess I was expecting a whole lot more. Yes, I like wine. I like Virgina Madson, I like Sandra Oh. And Thomas Hayden Church was okay on that TV show. I didn't even like Paul Giamatti's charactor at all. The only good thing he did was to go back to Madson's house in the last frame. Were these performances worthy of Oscars? No Way! All the buzz about Madson and she has one good line in the whole movie about wine being a living thing. I thought Sandra Oh was a heck of lot more lively- at least she showed some signs of life.An Oscar screenplay? Also strongly disagree, this was more on the level of a tv espisode.
I stayed awake, I guess that's some kind of recommendation....

...while it was one of my favorite films last year, I didn't think it was worthy of an Best Picture Oscar, although last year was not that strong so it deserved its nomination. On second viewing, Madsen's performance doesn't seem all that strong but Giamatti's range and expressive acting did deserve a nomination, IMO.
