I enjoyed this low-key crime drama about a Canadian junior bank exec who suffers from a very powerful gambling Jones. It's based on true events that took place in '82 between Toronto, Alantic City, and Vegas. Phil Hoffman did a superb unassuming Mahowny. John Hurt played a masterful roll as an Atlantic City casino boss obsessed with getting Mahowny's last dollar. Minnie Driver played the inexplicably devouted girlfriend and Maury Chaikin as Mahowny's piggish local bookie. Worth a watch.

I saw this DVD last summer and ended up doing Internet research on the man. The film is as you say very low key but a successful study of obsession. It's amazing what he got away with. Highly recommended.
Movie's OK, particularly the acting, but the book (Stung) is one of the very best works of its kind. Try it & see.Rico -- you did research on Molony? What'd you come up with? I'm curious as to how his life evolved afterwards.
