It is funny to see the Warner's logo at the beginning of this Selznick/MGM effort, but they have the best restoration lab in town and they did this one. They have learned from "Citizen Kane" not to take out too much grain (as they admit they did with "..Kane"). Leaving in some grain might be annoying to some but it does make the film look like Selznick intended. I am of course talking about the new four disc DVD package, not the original DVD. The supplementary material tells you more than you'd ever want to know about GWTW and you appreciate the stunning work on the film's picture itself when you see the unretouched supplement clips and trailers. There is also a judicious use of Dolby Digital EX, mainly in the action sequences.I have never cottoned to the film myself but this time through it was more enjoyable than previous video versions. But as a STORY I think that "Birth of a Nation" is a better film, its virulent racism and revisonist take not withstanding.
