...movies that you like ONLY because of the acting (usually of just one character), even if you don't necessarily like the movie as a whole? Some of mine:The Big Kahuna (Kevin Spacey)
Scarface (Al Pacino)
Ray (Jamie Foxx)
Godfather III (Al Pacino)
American History X (Edward Norton)

I guess that was a bad way to word it. Sure, I like the movies that I listed. I probably wouldn't own them if I didn't. However, it's pretty much ONLY because of the acting (usually of one actor/actress) that I like them.
I guess that I would even debate with myself over the choices, though. The two that I really feel this way about are Ray and Godfather III (which I own as part of the trilogy, but I continue to watch because of Pacino). I guess it was Ray that got me thinking about this: not the best movie, really. However, I enjoy watching it because I believe that Jamie Foxx did a suburb job with his role.
Hope that helps.
Cheers,
Chris

because I guess I sorta like the WHOLE movie because of the one actor. There are movies that I watch BECAUSE of one person's part in it, but I usually still like the movie somewhat. The only example I can think of is Fargo. I really don't like that movie even though Buscemi/Macy are great in there, and so is Stormare in his quiet, morbid sort of way. One person's great acting job can MAKE a movie good, in my opinion. Rain Man maybe would be another one that Cruise made better than it would have been without him. People always credit Hoffman for that, but Cruise really carried it.

Out of the ones you list, I own two. I bought American History X because I think its a good movie. (And because the DVD was $8.99!) I own Godfather part 3 omly because it came as part of the GF box set.In genearl I only purchase movies that I like - as opposed to having great acting by (only) one character.
