Best Picture? I vote this boring, choppy, horribly told story the Worst picture ever by Martin Scorsese.I thought it started in the wrong place and just went downhill from there. What was the point? Was this supposed to be about airplanes or his movie star girlfiernds?
Worst of all was the crazy decision to use supposedly accurate coloring for the period? What was the point of that except to see blue grass?
Man what a waste of talent, money, and my time - almost 3 fricking hours.
Follow Ups:
I think it marked a return to form for Scorsese after the disappointing GoNY. It's a bravura piece of filmmaking IMO, a "movie" movie, nice and juicy. It's more a fantasia on themes from Hugh's life than a traditional biopic, but for that we have Biography on telly.

...but definitely worth seeing - especially if you vividly recall all of the Howard Hughes hoopla from the '60s and '70s. Still, it's one of the best pictures of last year, which is not saying a lot.

It was a lot better than I had anticipated. I think it would have benefitted from some editing. As I recall the movie was at least 2.5 hours - maybe even closer to 3? The pace would have been better if the first 20-30 minutes of the movie had been condensed, or maybe even eliminated. I thought Leo was quite convincing in the last third of the movie (when Huges was losing his marbles.) Frankly I didn't think Leo had it in him to pull off that performance, but imho he did quite well.I agree that the Aviator was considered Oscar material largely because the vast majority of other major releases last year were simply awful.

...I'm afraid he was unconvincing as HH - he seems too boyish to pull it off. I don't know what Scorcese sees in him. His best roles were in "Gilbert Grape" where he played a boy and "Catch me if You Can".

Where he also played a boy.
