This coming of age film has aged very well and is still as enjoyable as when it came out in 1972. Walter Murch (sp?) did a fantastic job of using the 50's tunes in different acoustic environments. There are two license plate references to Lucas' "THX 1138". For the latest DVD Lucas digitally painted in clouds in the sky at sunset in the opening shot. And the final sequence showing what happened to the male characters is just as chilling as it's ever been. A wonderful film.

I think he achieved hackdon a bit later on. I don't think he was a hack at this point. When this movie was released, its non-linnear form and loosely intertwined stories were unusual for American theatrical movies.I think AG captures a moment of typical small town life rather well. Life *was* a cliche in the early 60's, before the loss of boomer innocence. I was there.
AG may not be a classic for the ages but it's still good fun and well made.

I particularly like the pacing of the liquor store scene, culminating in unexpected gunplay. Also, John Milner's bittersweet rumination on how things have changed in his short life. And my favorite gang lord, Bo Hopkins.
