  Are you saying that amongst your 2k-ish ratings were many that you didn't even remember seeing?

  If so, you might try only rating movies you know you saw and know if you liked them or not to see if you get decent recommendations.

    No, I only rated movies I remembered well enough to rate.

    There were many others I've seen that I did not rate. Others I have seen and could rate, but not carried by Netflix (I am reminded of those by my cable listings and many of them would be 1 star.)
