  I hate it too.

  But there is a way to change it back to the old format (albiet temporarily)

  Under the FAQ section there are a series of questions about the new format and one of them is whether you can change your screen back to the old way. You can and it has a link to do it, but it says it is temporary until IMDB completes it survey and assessment of the new format

    I think you must be a registered user for that, which I am not... but perhaps it is worth joining for that feature alone.
