All I can say after is watching this movie is "Wow!" Story-wise it wasn't anything special, but the climbing sequences and special effects were worth the price of admission. I watched a program on AMC hosted by Stan Winston detailing some of the effects used in this movie prior to watching "Vertical Limits" so I knew some of what to expect. The scene where they drop the rescue party from the helicopter is a real nail-biter. On a scale of one to five, I'd give this a 3+.
Follow Ups:
special effects weren't bad though -- kept it somewhat interesting at least!
Isn't the name of this movie "Vertical Limit" ???
My mistake. Thanks for correcting me.
A few things bothered me about the movie. I wondered why the rescuers weren't using oxygen tanks. Of course the face masks would stifle the dialog a bit, wouldn't they? And there's the little detail that nitroglycerin, properly bottled (and one would assume that an army knows how to handle the stuff), is no more dangerous than water. With all the other things that can go fatally wrong on an 8000 meter high mountain, I thought the "deadly nitro" plot device was rather contrived.
Well, it was the Pakistani army, so maybe that had something to do with it. I was most impressed by the special effects. As I said, the story itself wasn't anything special. But overall, worth a look see.
