I'd like to read what you thought of this Sean Penn film with Jack Nicholson.
Follow Ups:
Pretty good movie with Jack Nicholson's best performance in years. I liked the ending which Penn did not soften up.Doug Schneider
I thought the film was above average for the most part. You are right, Doug, it was an unusual role for JN(haven't seen him fuck one up yet). I also thought the film missed a certain something to make it real good.
The scene that was real interesting, albeit stood out from the rest of the film was the scene in a turkey farm, yellow light, snow, no voices. Very moving.
Do you think the preacher was the murderer?
Did you actually watch the movie? The preacher was not the killer. The killer was the chocolate store lady's son as far as I can tell, although it's pretty nebulous.

Rather harsh, don't you think? The killer was the chocolate store lady's son as far as I can tell, although it's pretty nebulous.
Nebulous, you say. Kind of negates the ferocity of your first sentence.
Do you think the preacher was the murderer?Pardon me for butting in, but...
No, I don't think the preacher was the murderer. I think that Penn intentionally didn't let us know who the murderer was so that we would feel the same frustration at the end that Nicholson's character feels.
I'm sure I'll be watching this movie again, just to see how it was done. Grim and depressing, yes, but I thought it had everything that made a movie great (including Benicio DelToro!).
I initially thought that the preacher was the monster(much like JN's character thought), but wasn't sure at the end.
I liked the way it was filmed. Don't think I'll be returning to the film, but it wasn't a waste of time. Whatever will Penn do next?
Ok, the reason I'll be returning to this movie again is basically to look for clues. The car that "the Wizard" was driving at the end: did we see a car like that near the preacher's house? No? Did we see a car like that anywhere? Was anyone wearing a tell-tale piece of jewelry? You know, stuff like this can be fun -- but I won't make it a priority.
I saw it on DVD. I am glad I saw it. I will never see it again. I will not suggest it to any of my friends......
