Can anyone recommend some favorite ghost stories that my girlfriend and I could rent on DVD? My GF likes reading ghost stories, and I thought it would be fun some weekend to get a few ghost movies. Not looking for horror movies -- good special effects and/or just good, fun ghost stories. Thanks.
Follow Ups:
Niagara On The Lake, Ontario, Canada. Home of MANY movie set stand ins (The Dead Zone, Trapped in Paradise, for example), and home to MANY ghosts- real ones, NO Hollywood here. This place WAS the capital of Upper Canada during the war of 1812.
Where else can you visit three of the four major hotel properties in the vicinity (as well as many residences, pubs and churches that held the dying during said war), that actually tell its staff to shut up about the strange sounds and even stranger visuals (the forth is supposedly too new to have any, but it was built in a rather "unique" location)!?
Been there, work there, seen some WEIRD stuff.
Sorry for most likely going off topic, but its fun, huh?

Hello Dman,Pray elucidate on what you experiened in Niagara! It's a short drive down there for me...
would appreciate any reason to stay.Regards,
A.
i'd love to talk about this more personally, but this is not the really the forum for it. It's not very musically or film related. I noticed you don't accept Email, so this would be hard to do (I'm not a spammer or any crap like that!).

Hello Dman,I have just amended the email facility..I'd completely forgotten about it, sorry.
So do please continue, and email away!Regards,

guess we'll have more than just one weekend's worth of movies.
A real ghost story classic from Henry James novel.

He didn't ask for soft porn - did he?
...with "Erotic Ghost Story #1-#3". Remember how you were banned to the couch after renting EGS#1?
Yep, that's GOT to be it.... thanks for correcting.
Not even vaguely pornographic; love #2, they threw more budget at that one.
Try these:Chinese Ghost Story (HK)
the Dust Devil (england)
Kwaidan (jap)
Nang Nak (thai)
the Ring (jap)
the Ring 2 (jap)
the ShiningRing 0 is out, but I haven't seen it yet. I believe it must be as good as the first two (Ring 0 is the third in the series).
I think I like the old classic 1939 version the best. Although the Timothy Dalton 1970 version is also good.
I'll go out on a limb and recommend "The Lady In White," Frank LaLoggia's kinder, gentler ghost story. If you want a classic, try the Japanese film, "Kwaidan."
I would try these:Ring - also known as Ringu, I thought it was quite scary with no gore.
Screams in a Winters Night - I have heard nothing but good things about it
The Entity - Now a little dated, was really scary back in 1981.

things like Beetlejuice, Switch,Topper, and Heaven Can Wait spring to mind. But i wonder if you mean a light hearted 'Boo, I scared ya' kinda flick. Perhaps Blithe Spirit?
