I have the choice of either buying a used CRT on Ebay from $2500 to $4000 with 9" tubes 2000 hours. Or a new Rear projection 16:9 HDTV tv at BestBuy or Circut City. What do i need to consider to help make this descision. This is ONLY for movie watching off a DVD player. Which would look better. What do i need to avoid used off ebay. WHat should i look for. Im a projector newbie.
Any help is desperatly appreciated! :)

www.avsforum.comEbay is a shot in the dark, ESPECIALLY if you're a CRT newbie.
BTW- the reason you go for a 9" CRT is that a 106" HDTV image SMOKES any rear projector on the market. The setup is a hassle, the upkeep is annoying but there is no substitute for that big image. Rear projectors are big TV's, PJ's are "going to the movies!"
Be prepared for the financial commitment, PJ + mount + screen + cables + line doubler/trip/quad = $$$. Then you need a better DVD player because your old 35" never showed the distortion from your DVD and so on, and so on...
BTW- the Sony 1292 & G90 are two of the best PJ's ever made.
Good luck!
The main decision making factor between the two is your control of light in the room. If you can darken the room for viewing (blackout drapes, shutters, etc...), definitely go with the 9" projector. Then you can go 100"+ on a screen. If light cannot be controlled, rear projection is the way to go. The largest widescreen rear projection sets are 65".
I am a newbie on ebay so I don't have any advice for you in that regard. I found a demo Sony VW10HT LCD projector at a local home theater store for a great price with a 5 year warranty. Trying before buying is smart when it comes to projectors.
