I recently bought the NAD T531 DVD/CD Player. The sound is good, great even, when playing CDs but having problems when playing some DVDs. The picture fades slowly dark then light again; it also freezes sometimes. This primarily occurs on the rented DVDs, I bought a couple of DVDs and they play perfect though this is a concern.I've seen this happen on some lower end models my friends have bought but I payed quite a bit for this thing. Is this common? Or should I say is it more a function of the DVDs than the player? this is my first player so I have little experience with them. thanks for any advice you can spare.

I have a Sony 7000(?). It does not have any problems with rented DVD nor purchased DVD.Return it.
I had this same player over a year ago (and the same problems) and tried to warn everyone off NAD, which in my opinion is one of the worst engineered products out there. At that time NAD claimed it was a "software" glitch and new firmware would fix it. After waiting several months they installed the new chips and guess what? It was WORSE!
God, even the Chinese $100 players are able to get the video right.
