I am looking for a portable DVD player. Prices vary.
I like the Panasonics, but they are $600.
WalMart has the Initial brand for $200. You can buy 3 panasonics for that. For $400 Best Buy has Mintek.I can't find ANYTHING on the web or Google about INITIAL. Some
about MINTEK.This would be for occasional use only....not heavy use, that is why
the cheapest would be acceptable (as long as it is not crud).
Cost IS an issue.

Hi Fred!I'm not sure if you've already solved your portable DVD Player dilemma but, I'm writing just to tell you of my experience.
I bought the "Intial DVD-9510" offered at Wal-Mart.com about three days ago and, I have to say, so far...so good! I am a big gadget/feature person so, at first I was a little unsatisfied with the idea of having a smaller screen (knowing that there're bigger ones out there). However, my problem went away when I discovered the lovely 'zoom' feature offered by the Initial. And the price, $197.64! Unbelievable! That's all I can say.
I was also skeptical at first about the manufacturer. I thought, "Initial??? Never heard of 'em". So, I started to do research and came up with almost nothing good or bad about the company (as if it didn't exist). But, I decided to take a chance anyway. And I absolutely love this player. It does everything (as advertised) and it comes with just about every accessory needed (except headphones and popcorn...lol). And it turns out that Initial is brought to you by an electronic manufacturing company called "Shinsonic" (put that in your search engine and see what you find...might be helpful).
There's also a review by Gary "Something" for MSNBC, that might help you to decide. The url for the review is:

Also, I let my husband take the "Initial" to work yesterday and he raved about it all last night and plans to get one for himself this week. :)
Anyway Fred, I hope that you find what you're looking for. Good luck and enjoy the holidays!
T.M.
