I recently purchased the DRD450RG for the optical output. Whenever I find a channel in dolby digital, the audio periodically cuts out. Anybody else have this issue? Is this specific to RCA?

Follow Ups:
Yes, mine does that sometimes, what i think is that when the satellite signal drops a little, the receiver can't 'lock-on' to all 5 channels and it reverts to stereo briefly. Much like a receiver will go into mono mode if the stereo signal gets weak. Check your signal strength. Bear in mind though that the only 5.1 signals being broadcast are newer movies showing on premium channels.
Good Luck!

Are you using a Lexicon preamp? There have been many reports that RCA DSS receivers and Lex preamps have incompatibility issues regarding digital output via the toslink cable. If you do not have a Lex product, check the signal strength on the dish, check your preamps menus for some way to lock into th edigital signal and look into any incompatibility issues with your preamp. I doubt it is the dss box.

I'm using a Denon 4802. Most of the transponders are running in the mid-90s (I think 4 is 35). Could this somehow be a problem between the Denon and RCA. If so, would using a different DSS box solve the problem?

don't have that problem.... i started with a DD Sat receiver when RCA first came out with them about 2 years ago and since have moved to Sony DD receiver.... not because problems with the DD signal but because Sony's are faster.... and the image is way better than my old RCA.
I had seen a report that lines of resolution on the Sony's are limited to 300. Not sure if it's true, but I have stayed away from Sony for that reason (also heard their are quite a few bugs in the software). The picture on this RCA is fantastic, the sound is my only problem. I'm very hesitant to swap this box out because I'm afraid I will just end up with a whole new set of problems. I was hoping for some sort of software fix.
Could not vouch for the Hughes, but Hughes is the originator of the technology and make several of the receivers that are re-labelled by others....IMOE, the Sony was much better than the OLD RCA i had.... RCA may have gotten their S%#T together since then. I am, so far, very happy with the Sony Sat-A55 i have. I use the Coax as well as S-Video output for Video and the image is as good as i have seen before compared to other good receivers.
