Hi, I was wondering if anyone tried or bought any of these two Panasonic TVs: the CT-32HL42 and CT-34WX52. I'd like to know how good these two models are, in overall quality, compare to the Sony KV32HS500 and the KV34XBR800.Looking for, among other things, possible blackness issues so often related to Panasonic TVs, "squeeze" feature for anamorphic DVD, and if you can turn off the the scan velocity modulation on the Pannys (I heard that the DRC system on the Sony KV32HS500 makes regular tv look like crap and can't be turned off)
I'm not really looking for a 16:9 tv due to their far more expensive prices but for Xmas some stores are selling the CT-34WX52 3300$ CAN. versus 4000$ CAN. for the Sony KV34XBR800.
It may look like a good price but if the CT-34WX52 has a worse picture quality compare to the KV32HS500, I'll go with the 4:3 from Sony and save another 800$.

Follow Ups:
I recently bought the ct-34wx52 in Canada and I love it. DVD with a good progressive player (panasonic rp82 for example) is stunning, almost three dimensional with good software. HDTV, although a mixed bag with varying quality depending on broadcaster/source, is exceptional when it is high quality source (Jay Leno for example), better than DVD. Blacks are good, whites are maybe the best out there, color saturation is gorgeous. Little things that bothered me. Geometry is always so-so with large flat tubes. I had a horizontal bowing at the bottom of the screen (like virtually all sets I've seen in stores Panny/Sony or otherwise), but this was remedied by service tech who installed purity magnets along yoke and tube to compensate, now it's near perfect. Geometry will never be perfect with a CRT, you want perfect geometry, you buy plasma. Second, along the left and right edges of the screen, pixelation is more prodominent (effect amplified the closer you sit, I'm 7.5ft away and it really doesn't bother me). This effect has also been noticed on other brands, Sony might be slightly better in this respect. Two things that bother me about the Sony, the matching stand is too low and not practicle for storing electronics, and as with all trinitron models, there are three thin black wires running horizontally across screen (only noticiable with bright backgrounds, but once I noticed it bugged me). Other than these minor problems, the set is stunning and I highly recommend. As far as raster squeeze, I heard the 4:3 Panny only does it with 1080i material, but I would stick with a 16x9 set (then you don't worry about "squeeze"), it's the future of television and you won't be sorry when you experience DVD. One difference between the high end 4:3 and 16:9 sets for both Sony and Panny, the 16:9 sets have anti-reflective coatings that greatly enhances viewing in a bright room.

I also bought a CT-34WX52 recently and its geometry is not perfect as well.Diego E, you have mentioned about a technician that fixed the problem with your tv by installing purity magnets along the tube. Could you tell me where I can find one. I also live in Canada, Ottawa area.
Thanks.

Thanks Diego, that's going to help me big time. I think I'll go with a 16:9 if I can afford it. It's a better investment for the futur.Sony is still too expansive, Panasonic with their big promotion this xmas is a more reallistic option. But there is also the Toshiba widescreen (34HF81) which FuturShop is selling for even less.
Sony KV34XBR800: 4000$
Panasonic CT34WX52: 3300$
Toshiba 34HF81: 2700$

One question you had I did not answer. You can disable SVM on the new Panasonic. I believe on the Toshiba you cannot. You can e-mail me if you have further questions.
