Hi,I’m mostly an audio addict, but I want to make a plunge into the HT world.
I started to look for a reasonable price DVD player. I will use the DVD player
with a 27” Sony WEGA. I want the quality of the image to be good, but I
also need a good sounding player (not harsh). I don’t have a receiver right
now, but will soon buy one.So here are the DVD player I was offer :
Panasonic RP 62
Toshiba SD3800
Sony DVPNS 415
Pioneer DV-353I know that the Panasonic & toshiba have the “farouga” (spelling ?) chip,
but I wonder if it will make any difference for me (with my setup). Also,
I read that the reliability of the Panasonic was not so good ???Any comments or advise would be welcome !
Thanks for your help !

The thread below has some useful information. "dmunsil" and "sspears" were behind the very informative progressive dvd shootout in secrets of home theater and hi-fi.For an extra $20-30 the Panasonic RP82 is a worthwhile improvement on the RP62. The Faroudja chip will make a difference if you are sending your tv a progressive signal. You may or may not care about some of the other benefits of the RP82 . . . e.g. chroma-bug free.
Crutchfield.com has the RP82 for $229, and you can probably find a better price if you search around.
Disclaimer: I have the Sony 999es on order. May try to A/B it against a RP82 for comparison. Am using an RP62 as a temporary dvd player. 999 has better audio, but opinions on the video differ: technically the RP82 should be better (FLI chip, no chroma bug), but a number of people have reported a preference for the 999 . . .

Go for the Pioneer Elite DV-45A it plays everthing DVD-Audio/DVD-V/SACD/CD & has been rated highly,I own & Like the sonics of the DV-47A at a cost of $800, you should be able to pick up the dv-45a for about $550.
The other stuff is ok but...............

Hi,maybe my post was not very clear. I want good audio, but when playind
DVD only. I will use a seperate CD player for audio CD (Arcam Alpha 9). That said,
I'm sure that some DVD player under $250 can reproduce DVD audio
without beiing too harsh. I don't ask to get all the details I'm use too,
just warm sounding. From what I just said, can you recommend me one of the DVD players
I metionned ??Thanks for your help !
I can't recommend what I haven't demoed & DVD-Audio capable is different than a standard dvd player.
