I am looking into purchasing the aego p5 surround system. for an extra $400 they include a dts/dolby digital decoder. do i need this. can't i just use my dvd player (malata 520) for this?can somebody explain?
Follow Ups:
Both units have to have DTS/Dolby Digital in order for you to listen to the movie in those audio formats.

If your DVD player has DTS/DD decoding built in, then you send 5.1 channels to the preamp via 6 interconnects and the preamp must have this 6 channel input. If the DTS/DD decoding is done only on the receiver/preamp side then you send the digital signal from the DVD to the preamp.
