Any idea what causes the unit to stop playing after 2 minutes and the tray opens?

Check the reviews at audioreview.com . I think for most of the DVD players that exhibit relibility problems - people tend to post DIY fixes for those problems. Most seem to stem from a ribbon cable coming loose, or something to that effect. I'd check the user reviews for the c36 and see if someone has a DIY fix for your problem. My gut feeling tells me it's probably common and there's a single fix. But maybe not?
