  i'm pretty happy with my 2 yr old onkyo integra DTR7.1, wh has been replaced by newer models. there are several under your $1000 price point. the list on mine new was $1200, but i pd $850, so they're discounted sometimes. i've waffled on using it as a pre and putting a 2 channel amp in the system for music only because the receiver sounds so nice.
