Boy I'll tell ya a little knowledge is dangerous. I was all set yesterday to get a new 1066 from my local dealer. Great price, love the unit's features and looks, I am a rotel owner-1095, 1080 tuner & rsp-980. Well I found this great forum and started reading the posts I feel like I am making a mistake judging by the responses to all sorts of issues. My question... is any of this really going to affect me. The unit was shipped 3 weeks ago to my dealer so I guess it has the freshest firmware and remote. ok so does that mean no bass doubling? What about the new model I understand to be introduced in the next few weeks? Will it be that much better vs the increased cost? I also am a 2 channel music lover, vinyl is 50% of my listening. Any of you 1066 owners want to comment on your feeligs with the 1066? I know my dealer will not be getting more 1066's so most likely today is my day. Or I could spend a little more and get the B&K ref 50, oh yea for the person who is anguished over his potential 1095 purchase- I love my 1095 best amp for the $ bar none! TIA for sharing your experiences. I'am glad I found this forum. Happy New Year!

I can't speak for the Rotel or how it compares to the B&K.What I can say is that I have owned a B&K Ref 10 since about the first week they came out and I think that B&K makes a great product. If I were looking to upgrade my HT Pre I would go out and buy a Ref 50 without hesitation. My unit is built like a tank. Plenty of Digital/Analog ins and outs. The sound is phenominal. Plus B&K just lowered the price of the Ref 50 to $2,000!!!! Lots of people purchased this thing for a lot more than that.
I use a 1066 for HT and I am very pleased -- it competes just fine with a Meridian 565/562v that I had been using (and it provides for component outs that the 562v didn't have). As for music, I keep a completely separate system (except speakers -- and then I have 2 sets of cables that I unplug for music versus HT) since I just don't think any HT processor is up to the challenge (except for some very, very high end and expensive ones). If you can live with the inconvenience of swapping speaker cables on the left and right speakers (assuming you are staying with vinyl and 2 channel), then I'd try and keep them separate if I were you.

It sounds like you want to add a Rotel pre-processor to your 2 channel system (I don't know all the models). You also have other Rotel equipment & you listen to vinyl...basically you want to run the odd movie...right? Then buy the Rotel and run the front speakers via your 2 channel preamp and use the output of your processor run to the aux of the 2 channel pre. Surround is great if you watch action/adventure movies (e.g. U571), but otherwise if you watching dramas everything comes out of the centre channel (e.g. Finding Forester). In the later cases I switch to stereo, because any centre less than $1000 doesn't have the range of a stereo pair.So buy the Rotel, the extra wire & speakers and enjoy, but make sure you don't screw up your 2 channel system!
