Hi All,I am no expert so please help. I have a Denon 4802 and I am trying to hook up my new Panasonic progressive Scan DVD player. The manual says you need to hook it up with component cables to use the Progressive scan.
Here is the dilema. I have connected the Coponent cables and the Optical cable to my Denon 4802 and I get nothing. When I hook up the DVD player to the Denon with an S-Video cable and the audio connectors, everything works fine.
Is there something with the Denon I need to set-up? I tried using the TV component input on the Denon as well (just to see if the DVD input wasn't working on the Denon) but this didn't work either!
Hopefully someone has dealt with this and it is an easy fix. The Denon is a great piece of equipment, but it is so complicated!
Follow Ups:
Most receivers do not convert component video to S-video. You must have component outputs to the TV from the receiver. The common connection is to run the video connection directly from the DVD player to the TV, unless you have more video sources than your TV can handle. Running video sources through the receiver is convenient, but will degagrade signal quality (sometimes).

Hi All,Thanks for the great help. It was as easy as telling the Denon to use the Digital source and telling the DVD player to output Progressive!
Do you need component switching capability? If not, just run the component cables straight to your display and bypass the Denon. However, if you do need switching capability:
On the Denon, you will have video outputs (they may be labeled to monitor ). What type of cable are you running from the Denon to the display (monitor)? To get a component picture on the display, there should be 3 component cables going from the Denon to your display. On some DVD players, you actually have to tell them to output a component or progressive signal. Some players provide this in the menu as an option and some players require you to actually push a switch/button. You didn't mention the model of your Panasonic, so I don't know if this is the case with your particular player.

I'm not familiar with your Denon and you do not tell us what your video output is, but it is usual to go to a menu to choose between formats, particularly on players. Your remote should have a menu or setup button on it. Just look through the on screen options and you will find it somewhere. As a last resort (which we all avoid) try reading the manual. It will be buried in there somewhere.
