I was looking in the range sub $300. The DVD ability is for the wife but I am curious about the sound quality of SACD. I figured if I can pick up a DVD that satisfies both of us for only a few hundred dollars then it's worth a try. As far as quality goes I am more interested SACD than video ability. Also, if the unit has the ability to be modified that is a bonus.
I know nothing about mods; you can ask that at the Tweak Asylum. Sony and Toshiba have introduced amazingly full-featured low price players and the Pioneers are often well discounted into your range. I've not played with any of these.
