Howdy! I have had satelite for six years the picture is definetly better than cable. I just bought a LCD display that is HD compatible. Is HD on sat going to be better than cable HD? Any insight would be helpful before I get either of the two.

Thanks for the replies. After watching the Stanley Cup finals in HD.(Sat) I can not watch the other regular channels (non HD) It makes good sense to rent first. Thanks again all!

I am considering other alternatives... fortunately I am leasing their box.

Who ever you go with, try to lease their equipment, instead of purchasing hardware. The HD industry is still very young, with many changes to come in the next few years. Your decision should also depend on where you live.... Availability of certain sat birds (Voom), reception of over the air HD, content of local cable providers.Best to find if you have a local HDTV Info and Reception group and ask around there.

the cable HD box via component seems slightly sharper than the DVI feed from the Dish HD receiver; The component DIsh network feed being even less sharp. It might be the hardware I'm currently using from Dish is not quite as good as the hardware I'm renting from Charter so YMMV. I haven't had to buy any HD receiver hardware yet, though I feel starved for HD source material.
