and "watch while recording" feature. That is, 2 heads (maybe more) that allow you to watch part one of the movie while it is taping part 2. Is there a name for this feature? BTW: Tivo does not work in the boonies here, so I cannot just get a Tivo.
Follow Ups:
It does as you asked without an internal hard drive. I can come home while it is recording, hit play and it keeps recording while I'm watching (haven't tried it yet though). I'm just following the recording DVD. This unit does not have a hard drive but with DVD-RW's does it matter? I'll just re-use the same DVD over and over. They call it "time slip" or "chase play". Check the spec's carefully before buying, I almost bought a Panny but found out that it didn't do DVD-RW's, only DVD-R.
"Chase Play: Yes (not in video mode)" whatever that means.

Hey, all.I'm thinking of buying a DVD recorder. Had a couple of questions, tho.
First, one of the best things about the DVD is the ability to go from anywhere to anywhere else in the program instantly. Do any of the DVD recorders have a "chapter index point insert" button? (for lack of a better term.) Such a button would allow you to tap it during the record process to insert chapters seamlessly into the recording, allowing you to find a particular part of the recording quickly. And, if there is such a recorder with the feature, is it cross-compatible with standard DVD players? I know that DVD recorders add a chapter whenever you stop recording & start it back up, but to do that in the middle of a program wouldn't be seamless.
Also, are DVD recorders reliable? I've known a couple of people who've had them break down shortly after buying them new. They were Cyberhome & another bargain brandname. Don't know if that makes a difference. I'd like to spend as little as possible & still get a good machine.
Many thanks...
Bobbo :-)
