This may be too late, but I hooked up a voom box for one of my customers (after the voom installer inadvertantly pulled out the green (Y) cable from the DVD player - no picture) and with the exception of the fact that you may have to go into the menu and specify that you want 1080i or 720p, the voom box will output the HD thru a standard component cable set. I don't know why, but I have seen several HD boxes lately come set to 480p. I was at a customers house recently where a Direct TV sat company set up my customers sat receiver (I sold him the HD TV, and HT system) and was suprised to see one of the brand new Hughes 250 GB HD Tivos set to 480p. I asked the customer if the sat installers had changed the screen resolution and he said they had only done the local channel scan and told him it was ready to go. I went in to the menus and found the improper setting. (480p can look pretty good, but this did not and should have been noticed by the installers that it was not in the one of the HD settings, 720p or 1080i) I am afraid to even contemplate how many consumers out there are not watching the HD they think they are!!!!!!!!!

I just went to work for a DTV service provider in Des Moines, IA and I can tell you that most if not all of the installers wouldn't know a DVI cable from a cat.5 cable. I would venture to guess that many of the HD receivers get hooked up with the RF (coax) cable and the customer rarely gets HD reception. These installers mostly come from a construction background and want to get out of the customer's house and on to the next job. And... Can you blame them? They get paid an extra $5 - $10 for an HD reciever rather than a standard def. Myself - I will spend the extra 90 seconds and use the best connection available but I'm sure most of the other techs do not - especially since they probably don't know how and have never even taken the time to read the manual for the equipment they're installing! Good luck -DW

How about a converting cable on this link?I have two HDTV sources going into my RPTV. One uses component, the other RGB. Both output 1080i properly to the set. A digital cable isn't needed for Hi-Def, in fact some TVs that convert DVI back to an analog signal do just as well with component.

Does the Voom box support component output? That might be your only option. Even if you adapted the HDMI/DVI to HD15, it still would not likely work since your TV is not HDCP-compatible.
yes it does but that means that i will be stuck with just 480p def, or am i wrong

Perhaps but you may have no choice in the matter without HDCP.

Does your TV have component video inputs (RGB)? Does the Voom box have component video outputs? If YES, use component video. If your TV has only HD15 (very strange if that's all it has), you can buy component video to HD15 cables.
