Today I painted my theater wall with a mixture of 70% Behr Silverscreen Eggshell and 30% Pearlessence White - mixed for me at Home Depot - about $30 including a really finely napped roller - watching Bubba Ho-Tep with my mouth hanging open - the wall has morphed into a very expensive Stewart Screen! Got the formula from some other home theater discussion site - amazing!! Try it!!
Follow Ups:
Interesting. Was your wall surface 'flat' or textured? All of mine are textured .

regular drywall with several coats of paint already on it - pretty uniform, though not perfect - I must say, though, for a few dollars and fifteen minutes work, the results are startling - a friend used goo products - expensive, a hassle to apply, and not any better to my corrected vision - try it - what can you lose
Keep that recipe handy! I may need to get it from you someday via the Asylum. You're right, it's worth a try and if it works, its a real bargain.

last night we watched Bad Santa "on demand" - comcast digital cable - gotta tell ya - i've seen the best home theater installations, and my humble panny projector and homemade wall are way up there - at least to my eyes and wallet - i think i might try a little higher percentage of pearlessence, but i think it depends on the brightness of the projector - not really much of a videophile, but i can see!
