I have a Set Box and Receive HDTV signals. What is the cheapest and simplest way to record these HDTV broadcasts. I was first thinking that I could use a VCR but, I'm guessing that a regular TV tuner is in the VCR not the HDTV tuner that is in my SET Top BoX.
I'm guessing I need some other hardware.

Call you cable company and see if they offer a HD-DVR. Doesn’t get any easier than that. Usually no down payment just a slight increase in your monthly bill.

Most of the Set Top Boxes will downconvert the HD signal to an SD signal (one a VCR can handle). This is the simplest and cheapest way to record the program. However, it won't be HD -- it will be SD. The next cheapest is to get something like the HD TiVO boxes with HD recording capability for real HD recording.
Or, if you have a really fast and expensive computer (3.xGHz, Windows XP, Pentium 4, etc), you can use it to record HD (1080i and 720p) programs from your STB with Windows Media 9 (aka VC-9). Check out Microsoft's site if you want to know more. And if you're really interested, there's a long thread on AVS Forum with tons of info regarding settings, how to, data rates, etc that I can direct you to.
