I just bought a Sony Kd xs955 tv and am looking for some suggestions on where I can find a pair of auxiliary powered stereo speakers that can be hooked up to the audio out from the tv via the rca outputs provided for this purpose. I love nhra drag racing and am trying to live vicariously through the tv and just need a little more audio muscle to supplement what is built into the Sony so that when those big nitro burners exit the water pit and commence their burnouts, I can be there. These speakers will not be left hooked up daily but will be hauled in and out the system for raceday only. My basic requirements are 1) rca hookup, 2} self powered, 3) relatively compact size and weight [say 20 lbs. or less] and 4} no separate sub cabinet. Any help with this would be really appreciated. I'm coming up snake eyes so far.

and not sure what your budget is, but Bryston makes power amps that are designed to be mounted on the back of speakers, which means you could then choose any shielded speaker you like. They are kind of pricey though. I wish some other amp manufacturers would offer something like this, as it is a great idea for home theater. Just run single ended or balanced interconnects to each speaker location and hide the amp behind the speakers or video monitor.

I've heard a pretty high end system using Paradigm active speakers, it sounded really good. The guy had an outrageous custom subwoofer that may have biased my opinion, but they seemed to play loud and clear.
