  and not sure what your budget is, but Bryston makes power amps that are designed to be mounted on the back of speakers, which means you could then choose any shielded speaker you like.

  They are kind of pricey though. I wish some other amp manufacturers would offer something like this, as it is a great idea for home theater. Just run single ended or balanced interconnects to each speaker location and hide the amp behind the speakers or video monitor.

  I've heard a pretty high end system using Paradigm active speakers, it sounded really good. The guy had an outrageous custom subwoofer that may have biased my opinion, but they seemed to play loud and clear.
