I have a Samsung DLP (the one that has the pedestal but I can't remember the specific model name). I don't think that it is the television as I do not see the trails while watching my satelite. Furthermore I never noticed the trails with my other DVD player which was a Denon 1800. Any ideas?

The new Sammy DLPs do have some motion artifacts, but that's not the issue here-its clearly your source. How is it hooked up? Component? HDMI? Have you tried to change it from Progressive scan to interlacing(or vice versa)? Have you turned off/on the set's motion optimizer?

I haven't done any of those things. I'm really not a video guy. I know that I have the progressive scan turned on. I know that it isn't currently hooked up the way that I would prefer. I had a problem with my pre amp so that it doesn't allow me to hook it up via the component connection. I may end up hooking it up via the HDMI connection. What I don't understand is why these problems are evident with this source and not with my older DVD player. Any ideas on that?
I'm just guessing here, but since its just this DVD player, and its all or many movies, the hook-up or a setting is off. Maybe this player is just more finicky. Maybe this player requires a different setting on the TV (minor compatability issue?). There could be lots of reasons, and its possible, that it is really minor, and there is an easy fix. If you've got the cable, try the HDMI connection. That would be my first choice. If not, try some of the settings on your TV, just to see what happens.
Try turning off the progressive scan, just to see what happens. Most of this should be fairly easy to try, usually just pushing some buttons on the remote.
