I bought a dvd video from a company called MuteBank from the u.k.This is a concert video that was on hbo a few years ago but I could not find it here. The title is Depeche Mode One Night in Paris.
When I try to play it the words come on screen "playback prohibited by area limitations"the back of the box says Music dvd exempt from classification.Pal region 2-6.Made in the eu.I have sent three e-mails to the place I placed the order with and they do not respond. Is this a different format or is it not licensed for the us?The web sight never said any thing about not playing in the us,thanks if any one can help.

Follow Ups:
The US is Region 1 and any disc that is not coded for Region 1 will not play in a player set up for Region 1.You actually have two problems with the DVD you purchased. The region problem can be cured several ways. Most people just get a cheap Chinese or Taiwanese DVD player. These are usually defaulted to play DVDs from all regions or can be easily hacked by entering a code on the remote that brings up a menu which allows you to make the player Region-free. Check out videohelp.com for a list of players whose codes are known.
Another way is to use one of the software programs available to strip the region coding when making a copy with a computer. As an example, DVDShrink (usually used with DVDDecrypter) will allow you to make a copy and encode the disc as Region-free or whatever region you want the disc to show (ie; Region 1, Region 2, etc).
The second problem is that this is a PAL format DVD. In the US, the NTSC system is used (and your display is probably NTSC only) and they are not compatible. Many, but not all, of the Region-defeatable DVD players can convert PAL to NTSC and NTSC to PAL: if you get one of these players, make sure it has this capability. Unfortunately, some do a good job and some don't (the picture is watchable, but the quality is lacking). Read reviews of any players that you are interested in to get an idea of how well it converts from one system to another.
