Hi,
I have a very nice family room on our lower level - about 15'x18' with built ins on one wall.
I am thinking about buying a projector and screen and making this a home theater.
Can I get an ascellent projector and screen for $2000 or less?
I don't follow this area like I do two channel sound and am looking for recommendations for those that are in the know. best bang for the buck possibilities.
Any thoughts or recommendations?
Thanks,
Bill

There are curtains to the daylight windows on the south wall. That can darken it if needed.
Thanks,

.. even my "cheap" X1 looks pretty fantastic. The total cost to me including cable, drop down Da-Lite screen and PJ was about $1900CDN. The picture on cable is a bit fuzzy (as would be expected on a cheaper 84" screen), but nothing to complain about. On a digitally fed picture it's quite amazing to be honest. We bought it on the advice of the good folks over at avsforum site unseen and were expecting a pretty good picture. We have more than a pretty good picture! Head to avsforum for a peek.

Check out this nice guide at projectorcentral.comhttp://www.projectorcentral.com/buyers_guide.cfm
for a tutorial on what factors you need to consider when you're trying to decide on what PJs might be right for you. After you read it, you can click on the Find Projectors link on that page to narrow things down.
After that, I'd suggest giving the <$3500 Digital PJ forum at AVS a read so you can see what owners of the PJs you might be interested in are saying. Many PJs with an MSRP of less than $2500 (actual street price would definitely be in your range) are discussed there. At the top of the page there are usually links to AVS sponsor dealers that would be more than willing to help you out with suggestions for a setup for your situation (lens throw, screen size, light output, etc). You may even find that a PJ in the $1k range may be all you really need in your situation.
