I've noticed that there is considerably less gain from the L/R audio outs(which run directly to my pre)from the Motorola HD cable box in comparison to the Motorola non-HD cable box?Is there a reason for this?
On another subject, I'm quite pleased with the DVI-HDMI cable I bought from RAM to use between the cable box and the TV.

You may be able to adjust the output if there is a digital volume control. Many DVD players have this "feature" (if you can call it a feature) and default to a lower volume. Try looking through the Menu for such a control or possibly on the remote. Otherwise, you're stuck with too low an output voltage (which is responsible for the inadequate volume) instead of the standard 2 volts.
