I left my PC TV recorder running last night and mis-set the stop time!I now have an 8Gb file and olny want the first 2Gb or so. Pity as it is a nice Prom repeat of Mahler 5.
I tried to load it into uS Video Editor (WinXP SP2) but after a long wait it just crashes.
Any quick and dirty ways of chopping it up? All new territory to me!

Follow Ups:
Nero is doing it. Slow, isn't it !!I obviously need to learn about video and DVD formats.
If it's MPEG2 you can use DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink to make a perfect copy and delete the extra stuff that you don't want. There's an interactive demo on the internet that shows you how.

Already knee deep in treacle ...

If you can put it on a DVD, you can do what you want via DVD D/DVD S. If you have a video editing program, you can also do this (I'm guessing you don't).

Different file types are created that can be read and then "edited" by DVD Shrink.

but thanks, anyway.
I don't believe the software I suggested reads .mpg, but if what you want can be burned as a DVD a different file type is created (which can be read).By the way, you can't get 2GB (what you aked for) on a CD either. I can get 1GB on a CD (Plextor's Plextools), but that's the limit for the CD format.
