I had issues with DVD playback though. It always gave me a 4:3 screen with subsequent reduction in viewing display on 16:9 screen. Perhaps a menu selection issue but I was trying to do this with a joy stick and no instructions (owner wasn't around).I'm itching to pick up a Blu-Ray player now with a definite improvement over DVD playback even on my ancient display. I noticed the price of the Samsung dropped to $700 so I might try that route but I need to browse through a few revies.

are u using hdmi or stereo analog out?

I have not even tried because I am using optical output, which does not support SACD. I sometimes wonder if HDMI adequately supports it because no preamp or receiver is capable of HDMI 1.3 yet. At some point I would like to replace my preamp with one capable of HDMI 1.3 or greater and explore SACD on the PS3...not to mention lossless multichannel PCM for blu-ray discs. I am really not capitalizing on everything the PS3 has to offer, but Rome wasn't built in a day.

That's all you need for SACD transfer. As to conversion to PCM, each device's manufacturer sets these parameters so you need to check each device's spec if you prefer one implementation (1-bit transfer) over the other (multi-bit transfer).

forget about getting preamps or receivers capable of HDMI 1.3dsd signal out thru' the hdmi output of ps3 are dumbed down to pcm.
and only about half of all bd movie releases are loaded with pcm soundtracks - and they are mainly sony movies, not always well known for great soundtrack mixes, aside from house of flying daggers, fifth elements, kung fu hustle, among a very few. the first 2's picture quality is really questionable. kfh's picture is a little softer focussed than i've expected. with an upscaling player like the dvp-ns9100es, the dvd disc picture quality is virtually no difference to the bd.
