In a year and a half of heavy use (all rentals-some looking very grim), I've never had a freeze-up or no play with my el-cheapo RCA 5223P. I do however clean most discs with a discwasher cd cleaner before I play them, and I treat EVERY disc with Auric Illuminator (better picture & much better sound!).
