Hey gang,I want to take full advantage of my DVD player - I have about $2000 to spend. Should I get a larg screen (widescreen) TV or a projector. If there is a preference one of you might have, which would you recommend. Keep in mind, I would most likely get a projector from one of the online auctions, such as UBID, so at least it would be cheaper. Are they better than Widescreen TVs?
As far as Widescreen TVs go, I don't need the HDTV or digital, just analog Widescreen with inputs for a DVD player. I know they're rare...any ideas?
Many thanks,
Murf

I doubt you can get a widescreen TV or a projector for $2000. For DVD's bigger is better as most have a widescreen aspect ratio. For that money, your best bet is probably an analog rear projection set. I certainly wouldn't buy a projector I didn't have a chance to audition first. I'd also want to get a TV from a local supplier in case it needed service or had to be returned.
I'd go with the 36" Sony XBR. The picture is brilliant and it iwll support progressive scan or other HDTV inputs. I think the avg price is about $2200.
Even new, some projectors do not give a satisfying picture. Used ones could cost heaps more than a new one to bring up to scratch. Also, bear in mind that projectors need darkened rooms. By all means audition rear projectors as some have brilliant pictures, but forget about large screen front projectors unless you have a budget 10X the one you quoted.
Also, to get the most out of your DVD player, make sure the unit you buy has component input, even if your present player does not have it. As for progressive scan, ask someone else as I'm not educated enough about that to advise.
