I upgraded form a Sony 27" TV to a Sony 32" in my home theater system. Now I'm getting a poor picture on channel 2 and 4(snow). I use mostly Monster Cable and use an inside antenna. I talked to Sony and the TV is hooked up correctly. Also bought a power antenna and one filter from Radio Shack but I'm still not having any luck. I tried unpluging components. No luck. Could I have a bad TV turner? Or do I need to do something else?
Follow Ups:
I use antennae exclusively for both TV sets so I feel your pain.If all else is the same and you suddenly lose reception by switching TVs, the problem is your new TV I would think. I would double check owner's manual to make sure you're selecting the correct antenna input. Also, there are several ways to hook up an antenna: direct to TV antenna input; direct to VCR (to use as a TV tuner) then to TV; my current hook up is direct to TV AND to VCR w/ a connection between VCR and TV (this allows me to watch TV while the videotape is stopped, rather than a blue screen...for normal TV viewing I go to the direct antenna signal and use the TV's tuner, not the VCR's).
So make sure you have all hooked up to the new TV as you did to the old 27", make sure you're sure that there's nothing else odd about Sony's hookup instructions that makes your new set up different, and if you still cannot get a signal, talk to several TV guys (installers of antenna, TV repairmen, etc.) for any similar experiences they've had. Good luck.
I would first clean all the connections with a q-tip and alcohol or even better is contact cleaner. If this does not help, then you are dealing with the indoor antenna and the fact that the amplifier it came with amplifies noise as well as signal. Try moving the antenna around. A good outdoor antenna with a rotor is the best solution. It will compete with satellite signal in my experience.
for years we had beautiful pictures on TV of closeby local stations with just amplified rabbit ear type antenna (recoton, i think, top of thier indoor line), except for occassional lapse of dumb guy down the street with ham radio until neighbors had conniption and he got filters. all of a sudden, no warning, lots of serious inteference that never went away. after futzing for weeks, it was a toss up between cable, satellite, and roof mount with rotor. went for satellite, mainly for programming and DD PPV. wallet is lighter from monthly fees but sure beats cable (how may times do want to see caddy shack anyways, and forget about signal quality and customer service) and that's on all fronts - programming includes local station feeds. it's been a year and we hardly rent dvds anymore since we are tuning in so much. no service interruptions (try that with cable) since we got larger 20" dish even in bad weather, and those once satisfying rabbit ears - just a warm / fuzzy memory. but if not for echostar, we probably would have a roofmount and rotor.
